BOSTON, Mass. (November 3, 2025) – Fourth-seeded Emerson College will host postseason soccer for the first time in three years when it hosts fifth-seeded Worcester Polytechnic Institute in first round action of the 2025 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Tournament at Rotch Field on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

The match marks the matinee portion of a NEWMAC Tournament doubleheader at Rotch Field on Tuesday as the third-seeded Emerson women's soccer team (9-5-4, 7-2-2 NEWMAC) will also host WPI (10-6-3, 5-4-2 NEWMAC) for their NEWMAC quarterfinal tomorrow at 6 p.m.

General admission mobile tickets for Tuesday's NEWMAC Tournament contests is $11.00 and can only be purchased through the NEWMAC online box office at events.hometownticketing.com/boxoffice/newmacsports. Children 12 and under and NEWMAC students with a valid student ID are free and do not need to purchase a mobile ticket. The NEWMAC and Emerson College encourage fans to purchase their mobile tickets in advance of the event to streamline the entry process on game day. While spectators may purchase their mobile tickets on site, no cash option will be available.

The game will also be broadcast live on FloSports and can be accessed via links at emersonlions.com or through the FloSports app on Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku.

Emerson (6-7-5, 3-4-1 NEWMAC) has qualified for the NEWMAC Tournament in consecutive seasons for the first time since joining the Conference in 2013 as the No. 4 seed after finishing in a three-way tie for fourth with WPI (6-6-5, 3-4-1 NEWMAC) and Springfield College (7-9-1, 3-4-1 NEWMAC) with ten points. The Lions earned the No. 4 seed and right to host Tuesday's first round clash with WPI by way of their 1-0 triumph over eventual No. 2-seed Babson College after the three programs all went 1-1 against one another.

Cade Mallett
Mallett shares the NEWMAC lead with his three gamewinning goals this season.

Emerson will host a NEWMAC Tournament match for the first time since advancing past MIT on penalty kicks after the two squads played to a 3-3 draw in the semifinals of the 2022 tournament. That also marks the Lions last semifinal appearance, having lost to Coast Guard 3-2 in overtime in the first-round last fall. Emerson is making its third NEWMAC Tournament appearance overall – all of which have come over the last four years, advancing to the NEWMAC Championship once in 2022.

Tuesday will mark the 13th meeting all-time between Emerson and Worcester Polytechic, the first in postseason play, but the second meeting within the last week. WPI holds a 10-1-1 advantage over Emerson all-time, but the Lions won a six-goal thriller over the Engineers in Worcester last Wednesday night for their first win in the series over 12 tries. Junior Rohan Edwards produced a four-point night with a goal and two assists to lift the Lions to the 4-2 win that clinched the Lions postseason berth.

First-year Asa Roberts made all three of his saves in a scoreless second half in the Emerson goal to seal the win with two goals. Sophomore Savio Ketnouvong (Paxton, Massachusetts/Our Lady of Good Counsel (Md.)) finished with one save in goal for WPI. The Engineers got first half goals from sophomore Mike Montabana and freshman Erol Gamus, both equalizing the match after Emerson took the lead.

Emerson heads into the postseason winners of three of its last four NEWMAC matches to clinch its tournament spot and hosting rights for the first round. The Lions are ranked sixth in the NEWMAC for both scoring and defense, netting 1.17 goals per match and yielding 1.61 per contest, also ranking sixth in the Conference with four clean sheets. The Lions are ranked third in the Conference by netting 1.57 goals per match in NEWMAC play.

Roberts has seen the majority of work in goal in his first collegiate season.

Senior Kyler Maira is Emerson's top scorer with nine points, netting a team-high four goals to go with an assist. Edwards has dished out a team-high four assists which is tied for sixth among NEWMAC leaders, adding two goals for eight points, while first-year Carlo Carlson and senior Cade Mallett, the 2022 NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, have both contributed three goals and an assist for seven points. Carlson has burst on the scene of late in attack, compiling his three goals and assist over the Lions last four NEWMAC matches, netting two goals in a 3-1 win at Clark University and contributing a goal and assist at WPI last week. All three of Mallett's goals this season are gamewinners to share the NEWMAC lead.

WPI enters the postseason having punched its ticket to the tournament on the final day of the regular season with its 1-0 victory over Salve Regina University. The Engineers are ranked fifth in the NEWMAC with a 1.53 team goals against average, fourth with five shutouts and eighth in scoring offense with 1.12 goals per match. They are yielding 2.0 goals per match in NEWMAC play this fall, while netting 1.13 goals per contest.

Ketnouvong is ranked fourth among NEWMAC leaders with his 1.58 goals against average, averaging 3.0 saves per match with four shutouts (T-3rd NEWMAC) in 971:22 over his 11 starts in the WPI goal. The winner of Tuesday afternoon's first round matchup will advance to the NEWMAC semifinal round to face top-seeded and No. 8-rationally-ranked Wheaton College (14-0-4, 7-0-1 NEWMAC) in Norton, Massachusetts, on Thursday at 2 p.m. Tuesday's second first round match between sixth-seeded Springfield and third-seeded Coast Guard Academy (7-5-6, 3-1-4 NEWMAC) at 6 p.m., will advance to visit second-seeded Babson College (8-6-4, 4-2-2 NEWMAC) on Thursday at 1 p.m. The NEWMAC Championship match will be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Saturday, November 8 (Time TBA).
