HOW IT HAPPENED

12": Emerson struck first within the first 11 minutes of the game and gained the 1-0 lead behind the duo of Johnston and Lukoskie. Johnston crossed a pass from the right side, which found the foot of Lukoskie in front of the goal. Lukoskie tapped the ball in as Leach fell backwards trying to make the stop.

18": Six minutes later, Emerson gave themselves a two-goal cushion on Lukoskie's second goal, this time with help from Barragan-Shaw. Barragan-Shaw collected the ball and passed it up to an open Lukoskie, who then booted her second tally past Leach's right and into the bottom middle of the net.

44": Emerson converted a WPI turnover into their third goal of the half just one minute before the frame's end. Out of her crease, Leach sent the ball back into play only to have the ball taken back by Carlson. Carlson successfully chipped in her first goal as it beat Leach into the net.

48": The hosts got right back on the offensive attack and propelled their lead to four within the first three minutes of the second half. Johnston crossed a pass that rolled past Hellerman on the goal line as an Engineers defender dove to make the save. The ball had already crossed the line, therefore Emerson's fourth goal stood.

-After the Lions claimed the four-goal advantage, WPI's offense was stalled by the stellar defensive backs of Emerson as Shaub only collected one save to help preserve the Lions' NEWMAC opening win.
