BOSTON, Mass. (October 31, 2026) – Babson College struck for a pair of goals five minutes apart to take control and claim a key 2-0 triumph over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer matchup at Rotch Field this afternoon.
Babson's two second half strikes, along with Clark University's 4-1 victory at Springfield College, dashed Emerson's postseason hopes on the final day of the regular season. Babson (7-7-4, 4-2-4 NEWMAC) has earned the No. 6 seed for next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will visit third-seeded Wheaton College for a quarterfinal round clash on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Emerson sees its season come to a close at 6-10-2 overall, including 4-7-0 in NEWMAC play to finish ninth in the final Conference standings – a point behind eighth place Springfield College.
Senior Callahan Cottone preserved the shutout in goal for Babson with seven saves, including six in a scoreless first half. Junior Lillian McAughan assisted on both Babson goals in the opening 5:48 of the second half.
Junior Hailey Forman finished with five saves in goal for Emerson.
Sophomore Izzy Lee pushed Babson in front just 19 seconds into the second half when she ran into a short cross from the right side by McAughan for her fifth goal of the season. The Beavers added what proved to be a backbreaking insurance tally 5:39 later as sophomore Sarah Hogan got on the end of a long serve from the right channel by junior Rylie Wesley after a flick from inside the 18 McAughan for her second goal of the year in the 51st minute.
