The Lead: The Emerson women's lacrosse team got goals from sophomores Maddy Reyes and Jules Rein and senior Ainsley Basic, but the Lions were bested in their NEWMAC opener down at Coast Guard, 15-3, on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Coast Guard rattled off the first three tallies of the game within the first seven minutes to put Emerson in an early 3-0 hole at the 8:40 mark. Reyes broke the Bears' scoring run at 7:09 to get the Lions on the board and move the score to 3-1.
- Emerson would not find the back of the net for the remainder of the first, which allowed Coast Guard to extend their lead to six with goals from Cascio and Seguin, as well as a pair from Weber. At the end of the first, the Lions trailed 7-1.
- The Bears added another goal at 12:09 of the first from Schmidt to up the score to 8-1 before Rein added the second Lions goal at 9:17 with the score now at 8-2.
- Coates and Skurat tacked on two more for the Bears before the quarter's end and extended their lead to eight at 10-2 at the break.
- Emerson was held to four shots in the third frame to Coast Guard's six. The Bears were able to turn four of their six shots into goals as the Lions now looked at a 12-goal deficit at 14-2.
- The fourth stanza saw one goal from each side, including one from Basic at the midway point at 7:09. Before Basic put in Emerson's final tally, Skurat slipped her fourth goal past Khosla at 11:00. Emerson got one more shot off at 1:50 as the Lions slipped to the Bears.
