BOSTON, Mass. (April 15, 2026) – Springfield College scored the first eight goals of the contest on its way to a 20-5 victory over Emerson College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse matchup at Rotch Field tonight.
Senior Lily Johnson, sophomore Claire Ognibene and first year Sarah Goldstein spearheaded the Springfield attack. Ognibene and Goldstein each tallied a team-high five points with Goldstein posting four goals and an assist, while collecting four draw controls and three ground balls, and Ognibene totaled a goal and four assists for the Pride. Johnson registered two goals and two assists, while junior Izzy Lalancette netted a pair of goals and senior Sarah Newton chipped in a goal and assist with 13 draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Sophomore Cedar Conrad started in the Springfield goal and made two saves in the first half, while classmate Lindsay Hillemeir added a second half stop for the Pride. Senior Lindsey Wettstein made nine first half saves for Emerson before classmate Ellie Spotts posted seven saves in the second half for the Lions.
Junior Ava DelliCompagni had a role in four of Emerson's five goals with two goals and two assists, collecting three draw controls, while sophomore Laina Gustafson scored three goals with a caused turnover and ground ball.
Johnson and Ognibene connected for Springfield's first two goals in the opening two minutes of the contest. The Pride finished the first quarter with an eight goal lead as Lalancette added consecutive goals 1:23 apart and then Goldstein scored twice 21-second apart to put the Pride up 7-0. Johnson assisted on the eighth goal from junior Kristyn Vasselin with 2:49 remaining in the opening frame.
Gustafson scored her first of the night off a DelliCompagni feed 45 seconds into the second quarter to break the Springfield run and put Emerson on the board. Springfield answered with two more Goldstein markers in a two minute span and the Pride went on to lead 15-2 at the break with both Emerson goals coming from Gustafson.
