HOW IT HAPPENED
30": With 15 minutes left in the first half, Emerson struck first and got themselves on the board for the 1-0 lead. Delbanco cut inside and crossed the ball over to Chuaqui, who knocked in the first shot past the dive of Desai and into the upper left.
40": 10 minutes later, MIT took advantage of the defensive back line collapsing, which allowed Hallinan to beat Fitzsimmons to his right as the Engineers locked the game at 1-all.
71": It was not until deep in the second frame when Emerson found the back of the net again. Desai committed a foul that would prove costly for MIT and gave the hosts the penalty kick opportunity. Kopanezos flicked the go-ahead marker into the upper left corner and put the Lions in front. 2-1.
86": Just 15 minutes after Emerson went up one, Robinson put in the unassisted 2-all equalizer into the lower right corner. MIT got two more shots off through the final five minutes of regulation, but both shots went right and moved the game into overtime.
96": MIT struck first six minutes into the first overtime period when off a corner, Minor headed in the go-ahead goal within the right post and handed the Engineers their first lead of the game at 3-2.
-MIT threatened for more with a mere minute left in the first overtime, but Fitzsimmons turned away Simon's attempt as the Lions entered the second overtime down 3-2.
103": Down one goal in the second overtime, it was a matter of three minutes at the 102:33 mark when Emerson's offense kept their season alive. After the ball was tipped by an MIT defender, Feekins got a foot on the ball and booted the equalizer within the lower left post.
-With the score locked at 3-all at the end of two overtime periods, the game moved into a shootout.
-Each team sent in two apiece before MIT's John Flynn's shot was swatted away by Fitzimmons. Han and Ragsdale sent in the final two Emerson penalty kicks before MIT's final attempt hit the crossbar to help the Lions lock up the 4-3 win.
