NEW LONDON, Conn. (September 8, 2026) – Connecticut College, ranked No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Association NCAA Division III preseason rankings, halted Emerson College's unbeaten run to start the season with a 1-0 decision in a non-conference men's soccer matchup at Freeman Field this afternoon.
First year Jayden Fokuo scored the lone goal of the match at the 57-minute mark just moments after Emerson had its best chance to take the lead. He scored off a feed from classmate Devin Kellan just after the Lions had pulled Camels senior goalkeeper Casey Shea well off his line but was unable to get a shot before the defense recovered to thwart the attempt and start the counterattack.
Shea finished with two saves to preserve Connecticut College's first shutout of the season. First year Lasse Bartsh-Erforth registered a season-high five saves in the goal for Emerson.
Emerson pushed forward for an equalizing attempt and drew a corner kick in the final minute, but Shea's backline stepped up to block an ensuing shot attempt by senior Thomas Pelino with 55-seconds remaining.
Emerson (3-1-0, 0-0-0 NEWMAC) returns to action on Saturday for its home opener against Widener University at Rotch Field at 1 p.m. Connecticut College (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC) visits Middlebury College on Saturday at noon.
