The Lead: In their 2021 NEWMAC opener, the Emerson women's soccer were handed a 2-0 shutout at the hands of WPI on Saturday afternoon in Worcester.

Ainslee MacQuarrie & Jennifer Van Pelt: two shots 

Goalie: Amara Schaub (3-1): two goals allowed on seven shots with five saves through 90 minutes


WPI

Sofia Orrico & Caitlin Bonavita: one assist

Goalie: Lauren Paul (4-2): zero goals allowed on four shots and four saves through 90 minutes


HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Both teams remained scoreless through the opening half as Emerson held the 6-4 shot advantage over WPI. 

55": 10 minutes into the second half of play, WPI broke the scoreless tie with its first goal in the 55th minute. After Schaub made the initial save, Rocco came in tallied a cleanup goal that put the Engineers on top, 1-0. 

84": Off Bonavita's corner deep into the frame, WPI gained an insurance goal when Keck connected with the kick and headed the 2-0 goal in from six yards out into the top left.

  • Emerson regroups on Tuesday, September 28th as the Lions treks out to Amherst for a non-league tilt at 4:30 p.m.
