The Lead: The lone goal scored by the Lion's Simone Barragan-Shaw proved to be the difference as Emerson blanked Wellesley 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Rotch Field.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

EMERSON

Barragan-Shaw: 1 goal (4 shots on goal)

Khaw:  1 assist, 1 shot on goal

Goalie: Amara Shaub (8-5) - zero goals allowed with seven saves on seven shots through 90 minutes

 

WELLESLEY:

Roy: 3 shots on goal

Huang: 2 shots on goal

Goalie: Kendall Lincoln – one goal allowed with six saves on seven shots through 90 minutes 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Both offenses were quiet in the first half with the in favor of Emerson 5-2. Emerson was able to find the back of the net late in the 1st half when Simone Barragan-Shaw buried a corner kick from Madeline Khaw. The shots were an even 8-8 tie ibn the 2nd half with Lion's goalkeeper Amara Shaub turning away 5 shots on goal.

41": The Lions broke the scoreless tie when Madeline Khaw sent a corner kick into the box that Simone Barragan-Shaw was able to head past the keeper to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

45": Brittney Righetti had a great scoring chance with :15 seconds left in that half that could have put the Lions up 2-0 going into halftime, but she was turned away by Wellesley's goalkeeper Kendall Lincoln.

53": Early in the 2nd half, Wellesley had two chances to even the score when Cindy Zeng's shot hit the crossbar and Eliza Roy's shot attempt on the rebound was saved by Lions goalie Amara Shaub, keeping the Lion's lead at 1-0.

72": The Lions had chances to extend their lead late in the game when Jennifer Van Pelt and Grace Cosgrove had shots turned away by Wellesley defeners.

  • The Lions stay at home as they welcome NEWMAC opponent Smith College on Wednesday, October 27th at 6pm.
