Men's Tennis Defeats Springfield For First Ever NEWMAC Win

The Emerson Men's Tennis Team traveled to Springfield, Mass. to take on the Pride of Springfield College Wednesday afternoon, coming home with a victory in a hard fought match.

The Lions opened up the match taking all three of the doubles points.  Bass Lin and Daniel Okin defeated Court Honda and Drew Delorenzo in the first flight 8-3.  Mateus De Campos Tinoco and Maximo Lawlor followed it up with a 8-5 victory over Freddie Moffa and Jack Anastopolous 8-5.  Surya Sundararajan and Brock Higley finished up the doubles sweep, taking down James Foley and Hieu Ton 8-3.

Lawlor swept Delorenzo 6-0, 6-0 in the second singles flight to grab the first singles point of the day for the Lions. With Emerson leading 4-0 overall, Senior Dan Okin took the third matchup 6-3, 6-1 to give the Lions the victory at third singles and to clinch Emerson's first ever NEWMAC win in Men's Tennis program history.

Head Coach Aaron Bergeron noted "I'm very proud of these guys and how hard they've worked this year to earn their first ever NEWMAC win. It was fitting that Dan was the clinching point for us as he's been waiting for this moment for four years."

The Lions get back in action on Saturday when they welcome Wheaton (Mass.) to Winchester Indoor Tennis Center in an early match starting at 10:00 AM.
