The Lead: Junior Emily Quinn (Dartmouth, Mass.) tallied an overall game high four goals for the Lions in a setback that saw the Emerson women's lacrosse team be outlasted by the Mount Holyoke Lyons, 9-8, in NEWMAC road play on Wednesday night.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Quinn registered a game best four goals on four shots to go along with a pair of caused turnovers with freshman Kelli Mark (Hermosa Beach, Calif.) added three goals and three draw control wins.
- In the net for Emerson was senior net minder Kristina Modica (East Moriches, N.Y.), who came away with eight saves and four ground ball pick ups.
- For Mount Holyoke, Leila Kouakou led the Lyons with a trio of nets to match a game-high seven draw controls and two assists with Kailtin Braz contributing two goals, six ground balls and four caused turnovers.
- Julia Klein also recorded two goals for the Lyons, while Julianna Rankin had a tally with three ground balls and one draw control.
- Mia Wysocki had three stops on 11 shots on goal and allowed eight goals through 60 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson and Mount Holyoke traded off leads within the first half that started with a goal from Mark at 27:11 and the equalizer from Klein over five minutes later at (21:33).
- Windsor gave Emerson the 2-1 lead on a tally assisted by sophomore Sophia Gripari (London Kington, England) only to have the hosts find the back of the net two more times.
- Neither team led by more than one until nets from Kouakou and Braz lifted Mount Holyoke to a two-goal 6-4 lead entering the half.
- After the Lyons upped its lead to three (7-4) on a marker by Deyscha Smith two minutes into the second frame, Quinn fired in a shot from in front of the net (7-5) before Klein put in the hosts eighth goal (8-5).
- Rankin sent her third goal of the game past Modica with 14:22 to play and lift the Lyons to a four goal lead (9-5), but Emerson was able to mount a comeback as Mark's tally cut the deficit down to three (9-6).
- With 13:30 remaining on the clock, Quinn inched Emerson within a pair (9-7) before the Lions were held scoreless over the next 11 minutes.
- Quinn broke the scoreless streak at the 1:58 mark with the Lions now a goal behind at 9-8, but were unable to tally another goal.

- Emerson concludes its three game road trip on Saturday with a NEWMAC contest at Smith at 1:00 p.m.
