The Lead: With the help of five goals from senior Meredith Weber (West Caldwell, N.J.) and four goals from junior Tara Windsor (Palm City, Fl.), the Emerson women's lacrosse team clipped the Coast Guard Bears in an 11-3 NEWMAC road tilt on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Windsor and Weber slipped two goals past Coast Guard goalie Hannah Delguercio within the first six minutes to claim the 2-0 lead.
- After Daria McKenna closed Coast Guard within one at 2-1, Abigail Bradford sent the equalizer past Emerson junior goalie Kristina Modica (East Moriches, N.Y.) at 19:09.
- Weber netted a trio of goals between the 14:27 and 12:06 marks to up Emerson's advantage to 5-2 until Bradford's second goal cut the lead to a pair at 5-3 to close out the half.
- Within the final 30 minutes, Emerson outscored Coast Guard 6-0.
- Free position shots from Weber and freshman Camille Mumford (Yardley, Penn.) opened up the second half and extended the Lions lead to 7-3 with 19:43 left to play.
- Mumford set up Windsor for Emerson's eighth goal before she netted her second goal to pull the Lions ahead by six at 9-3.
- Through the final 7:37, Windsor found the back of the net two more times to bring Emerson's advantage to 11-3.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Five was Weber's lucky number as she notched five goals, won five draw controls, scooped up five ground balls and five caused turnovers
- Freshman Sophia Gripari (London, United Kingdom), Weber and Mumford all tallied one assist each.
- Modica manned the net through the first 52:23 with 10 saves and allowed three goals and had freshman Sofia Naumovski (Yorba Linda, Calif.) entered for the final 7:37 to secure the win with one save.
- Bradford recorded two of Coast Guard's goals and McKenna tallied the other Bears goal.
- Leah Llewellyn scooped up three ground balls and caused three turnovers as MegMaria Stanchi and Anna McGoldrick won a pair of draw controls.
- Delguercio played the full 60 between the pipes with 13 saves and allowed 11 goals.
- Emerson held the advantage in ground balls (18-11), draw controls (11-5) and shots (32-18), while the Lions went 15-for-19 in clears and were 5-for-13 on free position shots.
- Coast Guard finished up going 0-for-3 in free position opportunities and 14-for-25 in clears.
