The Lead: Junior Tara Windsor (Palm City, Fl.) found the back of the net four times for the Lions, but it was four goals from Francesca Giovanucci that helped push Babson past the Emerson women's lacrosse team, 11-5, in a NEWMAC matchup on Wednesday night. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Windsor snuck a pair of goals past Babson goalie Stevie Burger within the first six and a half minutes of the first half to lift Emerson ahead of Babson, 2-0.
  • Babson began to chip into Emerson's lead and cut the lead to 2-1 after a net from Riley Buonagurio. 
  • Giovanucci slipped the 2-all equalizer past Emerson junior goalie Kristina Modica (East Moriches, N.Y.) before Lyndsay Giroux netted the go-ahead goal at the 20:18 mark.
  • Giovanucci registered her second goal of the game to push Babson ahead by two at 4-2 with 12:30 to play in the half.
  • From the 8:55 mark on, Babson tallied three more goals from Emily Bresnahan, Charlotte O'Halloran and Giovanucci to give the Beavers a five goal cushion of 7-2 at the half.
  • After over nine and a half minutes of no scoring to start off the second half, a goal from Giovanucci pushed Babson ahead 8-2 at 20:26 followed by the Beavers ninth goal tallied by Bresnahan at 19:42.
  • Babson extended its lead to eight at 10-2 on a net from Mairead Williams with 12:06 left in the second half.
  • With 8:30 on the clock, Taylor Hermann set up Taylor Thorbahan for Babson's 11th goal to put the lead at 11-2. 
  • Emerson found the back of the net for the first time since the 23:31 mark of the first half as Windsor completed a hat trick to bring the score to 11-3 with 4:03 left to play.
  • Six minutes later, Windsor netted her fourth goal of the game to close Emerson within seven at 11-4 before junior Megan Messuri (Stoneham, Mass.) dished the fifth Lions goal at 1:57. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Windsor and Messuri each tallied goals for Emerson as Messuri and freshman Sophia Gripari (London, United Kingdom) both recorded one assist. 
  • Senior Meredith Weber (West Caldwell, N.J.) won three draw controls and caused three turnovers.
  • Modica recorded 10 saves in the loss while she manned the net for the full 60 minutes.
  • Giovanucci recorded four goals for Babson as O'Halloran and Hermann each registered a pair of assists. 
  • Williams scooped up six ground balls and six Beavers caused one turnover each. 
  • Burger played the first 30 in the net for Babson and made one save as Olivia Phelan wrapped up the second half with seven saves. 
  • Babson held the advantage in ground balls (27-23), draw controls (13-5) and shots (35-19) and went 16-for-20 in clears and 3-for-9 in free position shots. 
  • Emerson finished 17-for-21 on clears and were 2-for-13 in free position attempts.
