The Lead: Despite four goals from senior Meredith Weber (West Caldwell, N.J.), the Emerson women's lacrosse team could not scrape up a win against the Colorado College Tigers and fell 22-11 in non-conference action on Tuesday night.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Along with her four goals, Weber also led Emerson as she won four draw controls.
- Freshman Sophia Gripari (London, United Kingdom) and junior Brooke Goshtigian (Acton, Mass.) each recorded an assists, while junior goalie Kristina Modica (East Moriches, N.Y.) paced the offense with eight ground balls.
- Annie DeFrino powered Colorado College with five goals, while Mary Taussig and Lily Benjamin each tallied two assists.
- Taussig also recorded a team-best four ground balls and Steph Kelly won nine draw controls.
- Zoe Frolik started the opening half for Colorado College and made one save, while Remy Wells finished out the final 30 minutes between the pipes to earn the win and made seven saves.
- Modica recorded 20 saves through to 60 minutes in the net for Emerson in the loss.
- Colorado College held the advantage in ground balls (29-22), draw controls (24-9) and shots (47-26).
- Emerson finished 4-for-9 in free position opportunities, while Colorado College went 7-for-10 in free position chances.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emerson and Colorado College exchanged the lead within the opening minutes of the first half as the score differential never went over two.
- The Lions only lead of the game came at the 27:30 mark of the first after a goal by junior Tara Windsor (Palm City, Fla.) gave them the 1-0 edge.
- After Weber squared the game 3-all with 21:00 on the clock, Sadie Cole and Nikki Blair gave the Tigers a two point cushion at 5-3.
- With the score evened at 5-all after Mia Doyon found the back of the net, Colorado College broke the tie on back to back goals from Tassuig and DeFrino to give them the 7-5 edge.
- 5:11 remained in the first half when Eva King once again put Colorado College up two at 9-7 before freshman Jenna Tomsky (Clinton, N.J.) and Weber tied the game at 9-all within the final two minutes.
- To kick off the second half, the Tigers strung together four consecutive goals to give them their biggest lead of four at 13-4.
- Weber cut Emerson's deficit down to three at 13-10 on a free-position shot before Colorado College responded with four more goals to give themselves a seven-point cushion at 17-10 on a net by DeFrino.
- Goshtigian set up freshman Anna Welch (West Hartford, Conn.) for Emerson's final goal of the game at 11:28 of the second half to get the Lions within six at 17-11.
- Through the final 11:28 of regulation, Colorado College netted the final five goals that included a pair from Kelly to seal the game at 22-11.
