Box Score MEDFORD, Mass. - Senior Duncan Bochicchio (Los Angeles, Calif.) squared the game 1-all in the opening minutes of the second half, but two consecutive goals from Newbury senior Ethan Forrest (East Bridgewater, Mass.) lifted the Nighthawks to a 3-1 victory over the Emerson men's soccer team on Wednesday night at Hormel Stadium.
Emerson falls to 2-4, while Newbury moves to 5-3-1.
Bochicchio nearly put the Lions on top in the 32nd minute of the first half on a penalty kick opportunity, but the kick went wide and the score remained 0-0. Seven minutes later, senior German Canales (Lynn, Mass.) sent his free kick into the right side of the net past Emerson junior goalie Lucas Fischer (Atlanta, Ga.) to put the Nighthawks on top 1-0 (38:17).
Emerson put themselves back in the game in the 46th minute thanks to an unassisted goal from Bochicchio (45:27) and buried the 1-all equalizer. After the Lions evened up the score, they nearly took the 2-1 lead over the Nighthawks on Bochicchio's second penalty shot chance, but like the first time, his kick went wide.
It was not until the later minutes of the second half that Newbury were able to extend its lead over Emerson. Thanks to back-to-back goals in the 88th and 89th minutes from Forrest with freshman Nilton De Andrade (Boston, Mass.) assisting on each, the Nighthawks were able to grab the 3-1 victory over the Lions.
Both Emerson and Newbury return to action on Saturday afternoon. The Lions travel to Springfield for a NEWMAC road tilt at 12:00 p.m., while the Nighthawks face NECC foe Becker at 2:00 p.m.
