BOSTON, Mass. – Women's Lacrosse hosted the Springfield College Pride for their last game of the regular season. The Lions played an aggressive game, but Springfield was able to stay ahead winning the game 13-8.
Lead scorers for the Lions include Emily Quinn with four goals and an assist, while Meredith Weber added three goals herself and won six draw controls . Kate Lemire tallied a goal and an assist.
Kristen Steidler put in an impressive six goals for the Pride, followed by Heather Raniolo and Shelby Corsano who added two each.
Defending the net for the Lions in the first half was Victoria Kanaris who made two saves on 10 shots. Coming in for the second half was Kristina Modika who made four saves on nine shots.
In cage for the full 60 was Springfield's Gabby Anderson who made five saves on 13 shots.
This closes the regular season for both teams as they move into the NEWMAC Playoffs.
The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the seeds for the upcoming women's lacrosse championship starting on Saturday afternoon, following the conclusion of the regular season. After finishing the regular season undefeated in conference play the Babson Beavers have earned the No. 1 seed and rights to host the semifinals and championship on Saturday, May 7th and Sunday, May 8th.
Wheaton (6-2) will be the No. 2 seed and advances to the semifinal round where they will play the winner of the quarterfinal match up between No. 3 Springfield (6-2) and No.6 Emerson (4-4) to be played on Saturday April 30. The Lyons defeated the Pride in the regular season to claim the second seed in the tiebreak.
MIT (5-3) earned the No.4 seed and will host a quarterfinal this Saturday against No. 5 Wellesley (4-4), the Blue defeated Emerson earlier in the regular season to claim the fifth seed in the tiebreak. The winner of that opening round game will move on to face the top seeded Beavers in the first semifinal at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday May 7.
The semifinal winners will face off for the NEWMAC championship on Sunday, May 8 at 1:00 p.m.
