Women's Lacrosse Defeats Wentworth, Weber and Righini hit 100 Career Goals!

BOSTON, Mass. - The Lions of Women's Lacrosse showed their offensive power as the defeated Wentworth 20-3, Thursday evening at Sweeney Field. With the win Emerson rises to 4-2 overall while Wentworth falls to 2-5 overall.

 

Emerson Women's Lacrosse now has two players with 100 goals or more. Junior Meredith Weber was at 99 goals before the Wentworth game and now has 100 career goals.  Senior Tayllar Righini scored her 100th goal in the win against Emmanuel last week.

 

Only 19 seconds into the contest, the Lions opened the game with a goal by senior Tayllar Righini, assisted by Emily Quinn. Wentworth responded a few minutes later with a goal of their own off the stick of Pam Mudge to tie that game at 1-1.

 

Less than a minute later the Lions retook the lead thanks to a goal by Meredith Weber, assisted by Tara Windsor. With this tallie Weber records her 100th career goal with the Lions, a milestone accomplishment! This ignited the Lions offense as they put in 11 unanswered goals before Wentworths Liz Glavin put one in the back of the net to bring the score up 12-2.

 

Quinn put another one in before the end of the first, as both teams entered the locker room with the Lions leading 13-2.

 

The second half was more of the same as the Lions continued to extend their lead. Wentworth scored once more thanks to an unassisted effort by Brooke Paradis, but the early Lions lead proved to be too much. Emerson closed out the game with a final score of 20-3.

 

Splitting time in cage for Wentworth was Haley Patton who played 45 minutes and made 11 saves on 27 shots. Liz Gunning took over playing 15 minutes and making 2 saves on 6 goals.

 

Defending the net for the full 60 was Victoria Kanaris who made 3 saves on 6 shots.

 

Emerson Women's Lacrosse now has two players with 100 goals or more. Junior Meredith Weber was at 99 goals before the Wentworth game and now has 100 career  goals. Senior Tayllar Righini scored her 100th goal in the win against Emmanuel last week.  

 

The Lions return to action on Saturday when they host Union College for a 5:30pm game.
