Women's Lacrosse Erupts for 17 Goals to Defeat Emmanuel

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. - Junior Meredith Weber (West Caldwell, N.J.) and freshman Emily Quinn combined for ten points to lead the Emerson College women's lacrosse team to a 17-6 road win over Emmanuel College at Clemente Field on Friday night.

Weber and Quinn each tallied four goals and an assist in the game to help the Lions improve to 3-2 on the young season. With the loss, the Saints fall to 1-2 in 2016, and 0-4 all-time against Emerson.

The visitors came out firing, as senior Tayllar Righini (Salem, N.H.) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game when she capitalized on a feed from Quinn. Two minutes later, senior Kate Lemire (Scituate, Mass.) scored her first of the night to double the Emerson lead.

Emmanuel junior Savannah Lundwall (Fiskdale, Mass.) stepped up to cut the lead in half with an unassisted goal, but the Lions fired back and extended the lead to 4-1 when Lemire assisted on goals by Quinn and Weber.

The Saints had their best offensive spurt of the evening when they scored three goals in the next seven minutes to pull even at 4-4.

Lundwall's second goal of the game was bookended by goals from sophomore Stephanie Warn (Hanson, Mass.) and senior Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.). Saints junior Emily Baker (Stratham, N.H.) assisted on all three goals.

After Emerson used a timeout, all of Emmanuel's momentum had vanished, and the Lions took full control of the contest.

The game's next ten goals were all scored by the team in purple, as Emerson scored three to end the first half and seven more in the first 17 minutes of the second half to create a running clock situation due to a 14-4 lead.

Junior Amanda Cook (Saco, Me.) scored a goal and assisted on a strike by Baker, but the Saints wouldn't get any closer than 15-6 as sophomore Tara Windsor (Palm City, Fla.) and Weber rounded out the scoring in the final minutes of play.

In addition to her five-point effort, Weber earned nine draw controls and picked up six ground balls. Rigghini scored twice and picked up an assist, while senior Guerin Morrisette (Georgetown, Me.) tallied a hat trick in the win. Lemire also had a strong night on the scoresheet, finishing with two goals and two assists.

Senior Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.) picked up six ground balls for the Saints and won two draw controls in a night where EC was 7-23 in the circle.

Sophomore Kristina Modica (East Moriches, N.Y.) and senior Victoria Kanaris (Haworth, N.J.) split the game in goal, combining for nine saves. Modica, seven saves, earned the win after playing the first half and leaving with a 7-4 lead. Senior Lauren White (Lynnfield, Mass.) made nine saves in the loss for EC.

The Saints travel to Framingham State University on Wednesday, Mar. 23 for a 7:00 p.m. start and the Lions head to Wentworth one day later for a 6:00 p.m. start.
