Women's Soccer Shoulders 1-0 Loss to Coast Guard

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Junior Gabrielle Auzenbergs's (Shrewsbury, Mass.) net in the 55th minute guided the Bears as the Emerson women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 loss to Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon in NEWMAC play.

Emerson drops to 9-8 overall and 4-4 against NEWMAC teams with the loss, while Coast Guard moves to 6-6-4 overall and 2-4-2 in NEWMAC action.

Senior keeper Melanie Escobar (Torrington, Conn.) was tagged with the loss for Emerson and made three stops in 90 minutes between the pipes, while Coast Guard sophomore goalie Rachel Boohar (Oxford, Pa.) made three saves in the win.

Sophomore Paige Haley (San Diego, Calif.) led Emerson with six shots, while seniors Katie Clark (Sacramento, Calif.) and Brianna Grisell (Brookfield, Conn.) paced Coast Guard with two shots apiece.

Emerson nor Coast Guard were able to find the back of the net as the scoreless first half closed with the two teams having three shots each. It was not until the 55th minute that Coast Guard made their way onto the board. Auzenbergs tallied the game's first and only goal just ten minutes into the second half as the ball slipped through the legs of Escobar.

After Coast Guard upped the score to 1-0, Emerson sent four shots towards Boohar, but the ball never found the back of the net.

Emerson and Coast Guard both return to NEWMAC action on Tuesday. The Lions travel to MIT at 4:00 p.m., while the Bears continue its home schedule and host Wellesley at 7:00 p.m.
