BOSTON, Mass - It was a beautiful day at Rotch Field as the Emerson Lions and the Wellesley Blue stepped out onto the turf for their first NEWMAC Contest of the 2015 season. Despite high intensity from both teams, the match ended in double overtime with the score tied at 2-2. The Lions are now 6-0-1, while the Blue are at 4-1-1.
It seemed like the match was going in Emerson's favor when Tayllar Righini scored 6 minutes into the contest. She was assisted by Mollie Coyne. The Lions scored again in the 24th minute off an effort from Kira Venturini, assisted by Rachel Lord. Both teams battled back and forth but the half would end with the score 2-0 in the Lion's Favor.
In the second half the Blue came out firing. In the 47th minute Gen Crotty scored off a solo effort, followed several minutes later with another solo effort by Juliette Fry to tie the score at 2-2.
You could cut the tension with a knife as both teams desperately tried to score before the end of regulation, but even with two overtimes, the match ended in a tie at 2-2.
Protecting the goal for Wellesley was Kat Goldsmith who made 9 saves on 11 shots on goal and playing the full time. Melanie Escobar protected the keep for the Lions, making 5 saves on 7 shots on goal and also playing the full time.
The Lion's stay home for their next matchup against non-conference Lesley. Match set for September 22nd at 6:00pm.
