Box Score
The Emerson College Men's Soccer team fell to Regis College 2-1 in a physical contest featuring 20 shots, 5 bookings, and 12 fouls.
Emerson's Dan Knight had the first great scoring chance of the half when his ferocious shot rattled the crossbar after being deflected by the Pride's goalkeeper, Manny Santiago.
Josh Krakowsky made an immediate impact when he came onto the pitch in the 29th minute. Within two minutes, he played a lofty cross from the right side to Knight, who was in fantastic position at the far post to drive in a header for the opening goal of the evening.
Regis would apply pressure late in the first half, with two minutes remaining, and would record their first shot on goal with a free kick from 23 yards out. The Lion's keeper Carter Bowers handled his first test of the night quite well, and cemented the Lions' 1-0 lead at the intermission.
In the 63rd minute, Regis equalized with Brendan Plasczynski carving a run from the left wing towards center, and the tension that was present in the early minutes of the first half had returned as the score was tied 1-1.
Things got chippy in the 79th minute with Mauro Barbosa of Regis and Max DeLuca of Emerson, each receiving cautions for their role in the scuffle.
Perhaps Emerson's best opportunity of the closing minutes was in the 83rd minute, when Elias Romanos made a dangerous run with blistering speed before being fouled hard by the Regis's Christian Mukala. The Pride defenseman was fine with only receiving a booking, and prevented an even more dangerous attempt on goal.
Brendan Plasczynski also played a huge role in the go-ahead goal for Regis in the 84th minute, aiding Don Gomez on his goal-scoring journey that began roughly 30 yards out. Regis took the lead 2-1 with less than 10 minutes remaining.
The Emerson defense went into desperation mode, with Warren Backman conceding a yellow card in the 87th minute with an aggressive foul, but providing energy for the Lions to press forward. Once Manny Santiago collected an all-or-nothing Emerson cross in the 88th minute, Regis had secured the victory.
The Lion's next matchup is at Daniel Webster College on September 5th. Game set for 1:00pm.
