BOSTON, MA - The Emerson Lions defeated the Suffolk Rams 3-1 in a Women's Soccer home contest at Rotch Field. With the win the Lions record rises to 6-0. The Rams fall to 0-5 in nonconference play.
The first goal of the match came in the 24th minute as Alexandra Dezenzo found the back of the net, assisted by a laser pass from Mollie Coyne. But the Rams rallied, with a nice shot by Jessica Harmon that was just barely blocked by the defense. The first half ended with the score 1-0 in the Lions favor.
The Lions came out firing in the second half as the Rams keeper Kirsten Weiker made two nice saves. She made 9 saves on 12 total shots, playing the full 90 minutes for the Rams.
Dezenzo hit her mark again on an assist from Alyssa Giannone, bringing the score up 2-0. Lion's Freshmen Jess Frost had an unassisted goal in the 74th minute after sending one high only moments earlier.
In the 84th minute, Suffolk's Kaitlin Flores found her opportunity and snuck one past Emerson keeper Laura Gartelman for the last goal of the match, 3-1.
Suffolk's next matchup is on the road against Regis College on 9/17. The Lion's stay at home for their first conference matchup against Wellesley on Saturday, September 19th at 1:00pm.
