Rain No Issue as Men's Soccer Defeats Newbury, 1-0

BOSTON, MA - It was a wet and rainy day at Rotch Field as the Emerson Men's Soccer team faced the Newbury Nighthawks. The Lion's would walk away with their first win of the season as the game ended 1-0. Their record rises to 1-2 overall, while the Nighthawks stand at 2-3 on the season.


Emmett Dixon for Newbury took the first shot of the game, working hard to create several close opportunities for the Nighthawks to score. Both teams battled back and forth as the rain continued to fall, but the first half would end scoreless.


With 15 minutes left in the game and amidst some traffic near the net, Lion's senior Austin Alphonse scored the winning goal, assisted by sophomore Clark Jacobson.


In the net for the Lions was Lucas Fischer with 8 saves. Protecting the goal for Newbury was Jarrod Smith with 5 saves. Both keeps played the full 90 minutes.


Next up for the Nighthawks is a home contest against MIT on September 12th at 3:00pm.


The Lion's next matchup is on the road against Maine Farmington. Game set for September 13th at 2:30pm.
