In the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Home & Season Opener, the Lady Lions defeated the Simmons Sharks (21-5). Emerson is now 1-0 on the season while the Sharks drop to 0-1.
With temperatures well below freezing and howling winds the Lady Lions never let up, scoring 10 goals in the first half and 11 in the second. Lead scorer for the Lions was Meredith Weber with 7 goals, she also won 7 draws.
The game started with a quick goal by Emerson's Guerin Morissette to take the lead. Several minutes went by until Greer Gilbert of Simmons tied the game up, but less than a minute later Emerson's Tayllar Righini scored giving Emerson the lead. Stepping on to the stage for the Lady Lions was Freshman Tara Windsor who had 1 goal and an assist. The first half ended with the score 10-3 Emerson.
While Emerson firmly held the lead the rest of the game, the Sharks never gave up. Stephanie Oliveri was the lead scorer for Simmons with 2 goals.
Emerson continued to extend their lead in the second half, allowing them to work through their roster. The Lady Lions play next at Keene State on March 9th. Game set for 4:00pm.
