MIT Defeats Women's Soccer, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass - It was a cool and clear night at Rotch Field, as Emerson Women's Soccer hosted the MIT Engineers for their final home contest of the season. The Engineers would walk away with the win after an early goal gave them the lead, final score 3-0. The Lions fall to 10-6-1 overall, with a record of 2-6-1 in the NEWMAC. MIT rises to 10-5-2 and 2-5-2 in conference play.


The Engineers came out firing and with 41 minutes still left in the first half, scored off a shot by Allie Hrabchak, assisted by Olivia Struckman. With the Lions now trailing they picked up the intensity and had several great opportunities and shots that just barely missed the mark. The half ended with the Lions still trailing 1-0.


In the second half MIT showed an even greater intensity than before, determined to maintain their lead. In the 50th minute Amy Apostol scored for the Engineers, raising the score 2-0. But the Lions wouldn't back down, attacking the net at every opportunity.


Late in the second half Emerson got a bit too aggressive which set up an opportunity for Olivia Struckman to score off an assist by Jennifer Ibanez, bringing the final score up 3-0 MIT.


Defending the goal for MIT was Lauren Ullmann with 7 saves. In net for the Lions was Melanie Escobar who made 2 saves on 5 shots.


Next up for the Lions is their final match of the regular season at Clark University on October 31st at 3:00pm.


MIT travels to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for its regular season finale with the Bears on Saturday, October 31 at 12:00 p.m
