Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - October 17, 2015 - Two goals in the second half paced the Springfield College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Emerson College on Saturday afternoon, as head coach John Gibson claimed his 200th victory at the helm of the Pride.

With the win, Springfield, ranked No. 6 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Regional Rankings, improves to 9-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), while Emerson falls to 9-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in league play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) finished the game without having to make a save, while her counterpart, Melanie Escobar (Torrington, Conn.) posted eight stops in the loss. Springfield outshot the Lions, 19-2, and held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Emerson struck first at the 25:36 mark when Alexandra Levin (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) sent in a corner kick that was redirected into the net by Tayllar Righini (Salem, N.H.) to give the Lions an early 1-0 advantage over Springfield.

The Pride quickly pulled even when Elizabeth Monsen (Wayne, N.J.) sent in a corner kick of her own that was contained by Jessica Miller (Southbury, Conn.) and fired into the right side of the net past Escobar to make it 1-1 with 14:16 remaining in the opening stanza.

Springfield opened the second half with a goal from senior forward Krissy Cicalis (Bridgewater, Mass.) to give the Pride a 2-1 lead just 5:09 into the frame. Senior Nicole Fowler (Hudson, Mass.)won a ball at the midfield and carried up the left side before finding Cicalis streaking up the middle of the field. After beating her defender, the senior found the back of the net to give the Pride a one-goal advantage.

The Pride tacked on an insurance goal late in the contest when Mikaela Coady (Middletown, Conn.) took a ball at the midfield and carried it to the top of the box before letting a shot go the snuck past Escobar and into the bottom left corner of the net to give the Pride a late 3-1 advantage.

Up next, Springfield will host Mount Holyoke on Tuesday, October 20 at 7 p.m. back on Brock-Affleck Field. The Lions stay on the road as they face Babson on October 20th at 3:30pm.
