Gordon Sneaks Past Women's Soccer 2-1

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – A phenomenal goal by Mollie Coyne wasn't enough to hold off the Gordon Fighting Scots Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team fell 2-1. The Lions are now 0-3 on the year as GC improves to 3-1.

The first half saw the Lions set the pace in the first half of play as the fired off four shots at the Fighting Scots with Alyssa Giannone placing a perfect textbook cross into the box that Mollie Coyne found to one touch into the left corner to take a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute of play. Emerson held off GC nearly for the rest of the half until Mary Catherine Aston set up Chandler Stier who was just barely able to push one past Allie Altman to send the teams into the half tied 1-1.

The second half was all Gordon though, as they rocked 13 shots at the Lions will Altman doing work between the posts with five saves. The difference maker for the Scots came in the 78th minute of play as Hannah Midwinter put up a cross that Taylor McSherry turned and cranked into the top left corner for the 2-1 final.

The Lions will hit the road next as they travel to Mount Ida on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. match-up against the Mustangs in Newton, Mass.
