Box Score SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – A goal in each half as well as Melanie Escobar's four clutch saves led the way Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team won 2-0 over the Mount Holyoke Lyons. With the win the Lions are now 4-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play while MHC falls to 3-6 on the year and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.
The first half saw both teams come out fairly even with Emerson putting up three shots to MHC's two. EC didn't waste much time though as Katherine Dobson set up Tayllar Righini who blasted a shot into the lower right corner in the 11th minute of play.
The second half saw both teams up the ante as the Lyons came out to take seven shots in the half, while holding EC to only two. Melanie Escobar was key for Emerson in the half, putting up four saves to keep MHC scoreless.
The Lions struck again in the 62nd minute of action as a corner kick set up Mollie Coyne, who found the ball at the top of the box and dribbled a few steps to her left before sending a bulleted shot over the reach of the keeper and in under the cross bar.
The Lions will return to action next Saturday as they continue their NEWMAC slate, facing WPI at 4 p.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
