Wellesley Tops Women's Soccer 2-0

Box Score

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Allie Altman stepped up on the day for six saves while Melanie Escobar added two more as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team fell in a tough 2-0 loss to Wellesley Saturday afternoon. The Lions are now 3-4 on the year and 0-1 in conference play while the Blue move to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC.

The first half saw the Blue come out fired up as they put up seven shots in the half, five of which saw Allie Altman step up to make the save. While the Lions managed to collect two corner kicks to Wellesley's one, EC still couldn't get the offensive attack going as they were unable to get a shot off in the first 45 minutes of action.

The Blue struck gold in the 15th minute of play though as Melise Knowles scored her fourth goal of the season after receiving the ball at the corner of the six where she turned around to beat a defender, before firing a shot off the dribble that beat the Altman to the right side.

The Emerson defense kept putting in the effort though to hold off 14 of Wellesley's shots on the day, but a corner kick for the Blue proved costly in the 75th minute of play with Sumner Hanula setting up Sofia Diaz de Villegas who put up a spin move before dropping in Wellesley's second goal of the day to cement the score at 2-0.

The Lions return to action this Tuesday as they travel to Lesley for the annual Charles River Cup at 8 p.m. in Brookline, Mass.
