BOSTON, Mass. – A fast start for the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team couldn't be sustained Saturday as the Lions fell 21-6 to the visiting Springfield Pride to open their inaugural NEWMAC slate. The Lions move to 4-3 on the year and 0-1 in conference play as Springfield improves to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC.

The first half saw the Pride come out to strike first in the half two minutes in but Emerson answered the call with Krystie Zoch dropping a goal in the sixth minute of action that was followed up nearly a minute later by Tayllar Righini to take the 2-1 lead. It was short-lived though as the Pride fired back with eight unanswered goals, three from Kelly Gallo alone to storm to a 9-2 lead.

Tayllar Righini found Guerin Morissette with less than 10 minutes in the half to add another goal that Righini matched for her second on the day with a free position shot to make it 9-4. The Lions kept chipping away with Alex Corrado finding Meredith Weber to cut it to 9-5. The Pride were relentless though in their 19 shots in the half as they added two more in the last minute to make it 11-5 headed into the break, even as Victoria Kanaris did work with six saves in the half.

Springfield never took their foot off the gas in the second half, with Michelle Dorsey adding two more goals in the first 10 minutes. Alex Corrado fired back next with a feed from Kanika Misra to make it 13-6. The rest of the game belonged to the Pride though as they went uncontested for eight more goals with Kelly Gallo wrapping the day with six on the day as the game came to a close.

The Lions will return to action this Thursday as they set to host New England College in Boston at Rotch Field at 7 p.m.
