Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Two phenomenal assists by Mollie Coyne paved the way to a 2-1 win over Clark for the Emerson Women's Soccer Team Saturday afternoon. The win pulls EC's record to 6-11-1 on the year and 3-7 in conference play while Clark falls to 2-16 overall and 1-9 in the NEWMAC.
While the first half would showcase all the offense on the day, Allie Altman also had to flash some skills in net as she put up four saves. The Cougars took the lead first though in the 20th minute of play as a ball broke through the Emerson defense that found Charlotte Mays who chipped it over Altman to make it 1-0.
The Lions didn't waste much time firing back though as Mollie Coyne put up a picture perfect cross into the box that Alyssa Giannone put a head on into the bottom right of the goal to knot it 1-1. The Cougars pushed back with five fouls in the half, but Mollie Coyne was on point as she sent another cross that found a head, this time with Alexandra Levin putting away for the 2-1 lead at the break.
The second half was all defense though as Emerson stepped up the pace physically with eight fouls. Clark put up five shots in the half, but Altman put up a clutch save followed up with a huge team save after a scrum in the box to keep the Lions ahead for the 2-1 win.
The win closes out the 2014 season for the Lions and they'd like to thank their fans and family for all the support throughout the season!
