Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Melanie Escobar put up six saves Tuesday night as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team fell in a tough 3-0 loss to the MIT Engineers in NEWMAC action. With the loss the Lions are 5-11-1 overall and 2-7 in conference play while MIT improves to 13-3-2 on the year and 8-0-1 in the NEWMAC.
The first half saw the Lions nearly match MIT in shots with four to the Engineers six, with Lauren Ullmann being forced to make three saves to keep the Lions off the board. MIT scrapped onto the board in the 15th minute of play as Elena Gianotas put up a corner kick to the far corner that found Julia Goupil who nabbed her third goal of the year.
The Lions kept pushing with Alyssa Giannone putting up two shots in the half, but the Engineers wouldn't be held back as they scored again in the 34th minute of action with the first goal of the night by the Olivia Struckman and Ambika Krishnamachar duo to send it into the half with MIT up 2-0.
The second half saw MIT come out with an agenda as they cranked 14 shots to EC's one as Escobar saved four shots to try and hold off the Engineers. The defense broke down again in the 56th minute though as Struckman found Krisnamachar again to pull it to the 3-0 final.
The Lions will close out their 2014 regular season on Saturday as they set to host Clark. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
