Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Three Lion shots rang out off of the posts Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Men's Soccer Team forced a 0-0 double overtime tie against the visiting Clark Cougars. The tie is the first NEWMAC tie in program history which places the Lions at 5-7-4 on the year and 0-5-1 in conference play while Clark moves to 6-9-2 overall and 1-3-2 in NEWMAC play.
The first half belonged to the Lions as they outshot the Cougars eight to four with CU's Alistair Richardson doing work between the posts with four saves in the half as the Lions offense kept rattling the cage as all 45 minutes went by scoreless.
Coming out of the break the roles were reversed though as this time Carter Bowers had to make four saves to keep the Cougars shutout. Clark stepped up on offense as they put up eight shots this time while Emerson only mustered six. Evan Eubanks looked prime to put one away in the half, but again it found post and managed to fall in favor of the Cougars as regulation ended.
The first overtime was a quiet one as only one shot went off by Clark, but Emerson's play amped up physically as they drew four fouls in the period. The Lions stormed out in the second overtime though as they cranked five shots at Clark with a flying header from Patrick Lowndes just missing the mark and hitting post as well as time elapsed leaving the game a 0-0 tie.
The Lions hit the home pitch again on Tuesday as they set to host Rivier in a 6 p.m. game at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
