Huge Goal By Soccer's Moser Unable To Hold Off Babson

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – A booming goal from half field by Haley Moser was a highlight on the night as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team fell in a 3-1 game against the visiting Babson Beavers in NEWMAC action Tuesday. The Lions are now 4-10-1 on the year and 1-6 in conference play while Babson improves to 11-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in NEWMAC play.

The Beavers got out to a quick start on the Lions as they came out of the gate to put up eight shots in the half with one finding the back of the net in the sixth minute of action as Victoria Penta put a ball through in front of the goal that Jessica DiPhilippo put away to take the 1-0 lead. DiPhilippo was in on the next goal in the 10th minute as well, this time assisting Kelsey Ford in a breakaway to make it 2-0 with 35 minutes remaining.

The Lions stepped up to shut it down the rest of the half though as Allie Altman made two saves to hold the Beavers at bay for the rest of the half. A Babson foul around half field set up EC for their score on the night as Haley Moser crushed a ball all the way into the box that bounced over the BC goalie to make it 2-1 headed into the break.

The Beavers again came out looking to threaten EC with nine more shots in the second half that forced three more saves out of Altman. While Emerson forced three saves out of Babson's Melina Kapotsis as well, it couldn't hold as Kristina Simonson went unassisted with a tap into the goal in the 66th minute of action to pull it to the 3-1 final.

The Lions continue NEWMAC action on Saturday as they travel to Coast Guard to take on the Bears in a 5 p.m. match-up in New London, Conn.
