Springfield Tops Women's Soccer 2-0

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – Six saves by Melanie Escobar didn't prove to be enough Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team fell 2-0 to the visiting Springfield Pride. The Lions are now 4-9-1 on the year and 1-5 in conference play as Springfield moves to 8-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the NEWMAC.

The first half saw the Pride offense come out to play as they put up 10 shots to EC's two. Escobar was key for the Lions in goal as she put up four saves in the half to keep Emerson in it. The 31st minute finally saw the defense falter though as a cross set up Jessica Miller who put a head on it that the Emerson defense tried to clear, but it found a home in the bottom right corner of the net to make it 1-0 at the half.

The second half saw Emerson try to step it up more, scrapping more shots and corner kicks than the first half, while the defense stepped up to quiet the Pride. SC couldn't be contained though as an unlucky bounce on a rebound in the 68th minute found Amanda Calzolano's feet that she took to the top left corner to pull it to the 2-0 final.

The Lions return to action this Tuesday as they set to host Babson in NEWMAC action with a 6 p.m. game time at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
