Box Score NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Melanie Escobar's seven saves wasn't enough Sunday afternoon as the Emerson Women's Soccer team fell 8-1 to Smith College in NEWMAC action. Emerson is now 4-7-1 on the year and 1-3 in conference action while Smith moves to 5-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the NEWMAC.
The first half saw the Pioneers offense outshoot EC eight-to-four with Smith striking first in the sixth minute of action with a cross from the right side that Jordan Houston tapped into the goal to make it 1-0. Emerson answered towards the end of the half with a ball that was skied in the air that Tayllar Righini found and slipped under a fully extended GK to head into the half with the score tied 1-1.
The second half was all Smith as the Pioneers went on a tear as Gigi Ross and Jenna Bicierro both put away two goals in the half and Jordan Houston also added her second of the day. The Lions just couldn't seem to stop the SC attack in the half as the Pioneers also put in two more for seven goals in the second half to close out the win.
Next up the Lions will continue NEWMAC action as they host Wheaton Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
