Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Goals by Natalie Benjamin and Haley Moser proved a difference maker Thursday night as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team took a 3-2 double overtime win from the Suffolk Rams. With the win the Lions improve to 4-2 on the year while Suffolk drops to 0-5.
The first half was a quiet one overall as the Lions outshot the Rams 10-to-3, but couldn't seem to net one with all their opportunities. Melanie Escobar put up a save in the half to keep the score at zeros on each side as the teams headed into half at a stalemate.
The second half saw the fireworks start up as it took only three minutes in for Natalie Benjamin to streak down the field in a breakaway that she dropped into the right corner to make it 1-0. EC gave it right back though after some miscommunication gave Binglei Zhou an unassisted goal to make it 1-1 after 60 minutes of play.
EC fired back next though Moser doing the work, this time with a sweet cross from Alyssa Giannone that she put a one-touch knee on to make it 2-1 in the Lions favor. The Rams were fired up though as in the 75th minute of action Gabrielle Balestrier fired up a cross from the corner that landed right in front of the net that Katherine Cote put away to knot it again sending it into OT.
The first overtime saw Emerson outshoot the Rams yet again, but Suffolk's keeper Melissa Brouilette kept them in it with a save to send it into OT. Double overtime is where the Lions made it happen though as Tayllar Righini found herself in the right place at the right time as she got her foot on a ball that she dropped in the left corner to cement the win.
Next up, the Lions will kick-off NEWMAC action this Saturday as they set to host Wellesley. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
