Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Hat tricks from Chelsea Phillips and Tracie Lombardo combined with Victoria Kanaris saw the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team take a 13-12 double overtime thriller from Simmons Saturday afternoon. With the win Emerson is now 6-6 on the year and 3-2 in conference play while Simmons falls to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the GNAC.
The first half saw the Lions waste no time taking it to the Sharks as 18 seconds into the game Phebe McKelvey put away her first goal of the day before she set up Tracie Lombardo with another goal in the fourth minute of play. The Lions looked to make it three straight as Chelsea Phillps put away a free position shot to make it 3-0.
Simmons recouped though as they rallied back to tie it with three unanswered goals in the next five minutes of action to knot it up. The Lions took the lead again though off Mackenzie Johnson's ninth goal of the year. Stephanie Oliveri from Simmons answered though with two goals to take the lead. Another FPS for Phillips tied it again, but Simmons wouldn't stop adding another goal to take the lead.
The Lions took advantage of a yellow card with 3:37 left in the half to turn the page on Simmons adding two goals before the half to head into the break up 7-6.
Coming out of the half, Emerson looked determined to take the win as Phebe McKelvey and Chelsea Phillips went back-to-back to jump out 9-6. Simmons was scrappy though as the rest of the half belonged to them as they rattled off two goals before Maggie Sheetz added another to make it 10-8.
The Sharks defense stepped up for the remainder of the half as they managed to stop Emerson's offensive attack while setting up Callie Warnock and Greer Gilbert for two goals in the waning minutes to make it 10-10 and send it into OT.
In the first overtime, the Sharks struck first and early, but Libby Murphy answered with an unassisted goal to make it 11-11. The back-and-forth continued on with another SC goal that Tracie Lombardo matched with about a minute left to make it 12-12 headed into double overtime.
With both teams putting in one last push, it was Victoria Kanaris's save that helped give Emerson the edge as Chelsea Phillips found Tracie Lombardo for a goal with thirty seconds remaining as EC took the 13-12 double overtime win.
The Lions will continue GNAC action this Wednesday as they set to host Rivier. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
