PAXTON, Mass. – The Emerson Men's Tennis Team got back to their winning ways Saturday as they fired up to throw down an 8-1 win over Anna Maria. With the win the Lions improve to 6-1 on the year and 3-0 in conference play while Anna Maria drops to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the GNAC.
Doubles action was all Emerson as Vincent Castellini and Roland Lewan were perfect in the three spot, topping LeGrand Haughton and Russell Braman 8-0. Steve Frend and Niklas Rhodes pulled in next, going 8-1 in the two spot. In the number one it was a bit of a battle, but in the end Mitchell Lance and Brent Walkoff prevailed with an 8-6 win over Calvin Weeks and Dillion George for the win.
Singles action looked nearly as flawless as Steve Frend and Zach Connolly pulled up first with 6-1, 6-0 wins in the three and five spots to clinch the match.
EC wasn't done yet though as Mitchell Lance took care of business in the two spot with a 6-2, 6-0 win while Matthew Clark kept it rolling, going 6-1, 6-1 in the six spot over Jose Rivera. Vincent Castellini made it 8-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win in the four spot while teammate and Man of the Match, Kevin Blisniuk pushed his match to extras falling in a tough tiebreaker, 5-7, 7-6(9-7), 10-8.
The Lions will continue the 2013 season on Monday as they travel to face Wentworth. Match time is set for 4 p.m. at Harvard University.
