NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Another dominant showcase awaited the Emerson Men's Tennis Team as they swept the Albertus Magnus Falcons 9-0 Saturday afternoon to move to a perfect 5-0 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.
The Lions rolled out to a strong start in doubles action as their perfect season rolled on with three wins, two in 8-0 fashion, pushed them to 15-0 on the year. In the two spot, Steve Frend and Niklas Rhodes pulled in with an 8-0 win, which was matched in the number three spot by Vincent Castellini and Roland Lewan as EC headed into doubles up 3-0.
The Lions wasted no time in clinching the match though as all six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Matthew Clark in the five spot collected a 6-1, 6-1 win that was followed with 6-0, 6-2 wins from Vincent Castellini in the three sport and Roland Lewan in the six spot.
EC wasn't finished yet though as Brent Walkoff threw down a 6-1, 6-2 win over Marcus Artaiz in the two spot that Niklas Rhodes followed up with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the four position. Closing out the day in the number one spot for the first time was Steve Frend, who saw a solid battled with Pete Zacharias that eventually saw EC claim 6-4, 6-4.
Man of the match for Emerson was Roland Lewan.
The Lions return to action this Wednesday as they host Eastern Nazarene. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Quincy, Mass.
