Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – A 19-game GNAC winning streak was snapped Saturday night as the Emerson Women's Lacrosse Team dominated the Norwich Cadets 18-2. In the win, Chelsea Phillips posted seven goals en route to Emerson improving to 3-4 on the year and 1-1 in conference play as Norwich falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the GNAC.
The first half was all Emerson all day as Phebe McKelvey started it off in the eighth minute of action before Alex Corrado dropped back-to-back goals to make it three unanswered scores. Norwich managed to scrap on the board in the 15th minute, but then Emerson went off the chain as Chelsea Phillips dropped three goals throughout the rest of the half. Joining her in the scoring spree was Libby Murphy and Mackenzie Johnson as the Lions cruised to an 8-1 lead at the half.
Coming out of the break Norwich still seemed helpless to stop the Lions as EC locked in again with Kanika Misra dropped a goal in the third minute of action before Tayllar Righini went back-to-back to make it 11-1.
Emerson didn't let off the gas though as Chelsea Phillips struck again off a free position shot before letting Alex Corrado drop a goal on the Cadets before going back-to-back again in the game off two more free position shots. NU's Grace Fitzpatrick added in another, but that was all Norwich could must on the night as Phillips put in another goal before Righini closed out the game with back-to-back goals as Emerson usurped the 2012 GNAC Champions 18-2.
The Lions return to their home pitch Monday night as they set to face Salve Regina. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
