Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A second half rally for two goals couldn't hold off the JWU Wildcats Tuesday afternoon who took a 3-2 win in double overtime from the Emerson Men's Soccer Team. The loss pushes the Lions to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play while JWU moves to 5-3-1 on the year and 3-1-0 in the GNAC.
The Wildcats wasted no time taking the lead after the first whistle, as O'Kyle Corridon stepped up on a midfield flip pass from Steve Cassesse that he lofted over Carter Bowers.
The game remained a gritfest on the field until the Lions surged in the second half with Ole Erikson coming off the bench to play MVP in the game, first with a slid pass across the box that he slipped past JWU's Austin Scoggin to even it up.
Erikson stepped up again for EC in the 67th minute of action as he set up Jacob Lawrence for a shot from 10 yards out that the keeper couldn't get control of to give Emerson the lead.
It looked wrapped up for the Lions as the game was 11 seconds from finishing when Kyle Metz put up a textbook cross that O'Kyle Corridon put away into the lower corner to send it to OT.
The Lions seemed to be out of gas though as they managed to hold off JWU in the first OT with Carter Bowers collecting two saves. The first few minutes of double OT was all the Wildcats needed though as Drew Lightfoot caught a breakaway ball from O'Kyle Corridon to finish the game.
The Lions hit pitch again this Thursday as they return home to face Wheelock at 6 p.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
