Men's Tennis Falls In Grueling Match To Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emerson Men's Tennis Team jumped back into action Thursday afternoon as they played a gritty Wentworth Leopard Team who was able to edge the Lions 6-2 on the day. Brent Walkoff collected wins in singles and doubles action on the day as the team falls to 3-4 on the season.

Double action would prove to challenge both teams as they battled off a windy day to keep the action going. WIT struck first with an 8-1 win in the three spot which Emerson returned back with Brent Walkoff and Mitchell Lance taking an 8-3 win in the number one spot to tie it up. A tenacious match in the number two spot would see the Leopards just able to edge the Lions as they took an 8-6 win to head into singles up 2-1.

Singles action proved to be a similar story as two of the matches had to go to three with super tiebreakers to determine the winners. The Lions took the lead early on in with Kevin Blisniuk taking a 6-3, 6-2 win in the number one spot right before teammate Brent Walkoff collected a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nate Gove to make it 3-2 Emerson.

It went downhill from there for the Lions as the next four matches came in favoring the Leopards with Mitchell Lance throwing down a valiant effort against Joe Centola in a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-2 loss while teammate Maxwell Abbushi saw a similar story in a grueling 7-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4) loss to close out the win for the Leopards.

The Lions will hit the courts again next week as they travel to Babson on Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. match.
