BOSTON, Mass. – A tough win in the number one spot for Kevin Blisniuk and a straight sets win for Mitchell Lance highlighted the day for the Emerson Men's Tennis Team Saturday afternoon in a tough 7-2 loss to GNAC foe Suffolk to fall to 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in GNAC play.
The Lions came out to put a strong effort in to open up doubles action as Mitchell Lance and Brent Walkoff took to the number one spot to face Aaron Lau and Christopher Staley where they put up a battle as both duos battled back and forth for set points until the Rams finally edged ahead for a 8-5 win. The Rams kept in tangent with the next two doubles sets as well, taking 8-3 and 8-2 wins to head into singles up 3-0.
In singles action, the Rams came out swinging as they took straight set wins in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth positions to clinch the match in favor of Suffolk. The Lions showed some heart though as Mitchell Lance blasted past Suffolk's Drew Reilly in a straight sets 6-3, 6-4 win.
In arguably the best match of the day though, Emerson's Kevin Blisniuk took on Suffolk's Aaron Lau in the number one spot where he battled out a 6-4 gritty win in the first set before Lau blasted back with a 6-2 win to knot it up and send it into a super tiebreaker. The tiebreaker turned out to be a slugfest with both Blisniuk and Lau trading points until Blisniuk finally edged far enough ahead to finish it with a 10-8 final
Up next the Lions will host GNAC opponent Anna Maria this Thursday March 29th with a 3:00 p.m. start time at the Arsenal Tennis Courts in Watertown.
