Box Score STANDISH, Maine – A first half offensive assault by the Emerson Men's Soccer Team was too much for the Monks of St. Joseph's of Maine as EC took a 3-0 win in the GNAC Quarterfinal round. With the win the Lions are now 10-7 on the year while SJM falls to 10-7-2.
The Lions came out with fury in the first half as they blasted nine shots at the Monks, who only came up with four themselves. The Lions broke open the game in the 21st minute of action as defender Patrick Lowndes hauled down the field for a corner kick from Jacob Lawrence. On the cross, Lowndes used his hops to get to the ball first, putting a head on it to find the back of the net and make it 1-0.
EC wasn't anywhere near done though as it took only three more minutes before the Lions struck again this time with Jacob Lawrence doing the work himself, showing off his handle as he finally put up a shot in traffic about 25 yards out for a bending kick into the top left corner.
Jacob Lawrence wasn't finished though as he added another assist on the day in the 30th minute, this time to Alex Van Pelt after a huge throw-in from Patrick Lowndes that came off of Lawrence's head only to be tapped in by Van Pelt to finish the scoring spree.
Up 3-0 out of the break, the Emerson defense stepped up to the cause again as they held SJM to only two shots in the second half that Carter Bowers hauled in for saves as he protected the shutout and advance Emerson the GNAC Semifinals.
The Lions are now set to travel to Albertus Magnus for the GNAC Semifinal match where they'll play the Falcons in New Haven, Conn.
