Johnson and Wales Slip By Women's Soccer 2-1

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – Allie Altman's heroics in net and Meghan Foehl's fourth goal of the season were not able to change the outcome Wednesday night as the Emerson Women's Soccer Team fell in a down to the wire 2-1 bout with Johnson and Wales. The loss drops Emerson to 3-5-1 on the year and 2-3-1 in conference play as JWU improves to 6-3 and a perfect 5-0 in the GNAC.

The Wildcats took it to the Lions at the first whistle, coming out to drop six shots in the first half with the EC defense giving everything they had to hold the line. Nearly 30 minutes in though the Wildcats penetrated the Lion guard though as Nicole Petrone played a perfect ball into the top left corner of the net to give JWU the 1-0 lead.

The Lions held it down to keep JWU off guard in the following minutes as EC came out of the half down 1-0, but not for long as Carmen Trobaugh completed a pass so perfect a quarterback would envy it as Meghan Foehl reeled back to crank one into the back right corner of the net and tie it up 1-1.

It remained a stalemate until the end of the game with less than 10 minutes left the Lion D faltered as Caitlyn Albert put up a pass about 25 yards outside the box that Kayla Sypek put away with her head in Abby Wambach style to give JWU the final edge they would need.

The Lions get back at it this weekend as their season continues with more GNAC play as they visit Mt. Ida on Saturday, Oct. 1 for a 1 p.m. game.
