Lions Unable to Withstand Monks as Men's Soccer Falls 1-0

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. – A rainy slugfest with playoff implications awaited the Emerson Men's Soccer team Wednesday night at Rotch Field as they took on St. Joe's of Maine in a contest that decided second place seeding for the GNAC playoffs. While the Noah Price made some unreal saves on the night stopping seven, the Lions ultimately fell 1-0 on the night. Emerson now holds at 8-8 overall and 7-3 in the GNAC while the Monks improve to 10-5 on the season and 6-3 in conference.

The first half saw both sides battle off the driving rain and wind which kept altering the attacks on both sides though they matched up evenly as each team could only get six shots off apiece in the 45 minutes allotted. Both Noah Price and Kenny Grade matched each other in saves with two apiece. The teams were also nearly even in fouls as well with the Monks collecting four to EC's five as time expired with the score still in a 0-0 knot.

The second half saw the Monks explode though as they ratcheted up the velocity with 10 shots to the Lions two. Price was phenomenal throughout though the defense faltered in the 57th minute of action after Jason Wade managed a cross through some heavy traffic to find Zach Johnson on the one touch to the top left of the box. While the Lions held the line throughout the duration, the Monks were not so peaceful in the last 30 minutes as they racked up eight fouls and a yellow card to stymie the Lions and snake off with a 1-0 win.

The Lions will now gear up for the GNAC playoffs where they'll set to host on Sunday, October 30 at 1 p.m. in Rotch Field where they'll await to see which seed in the conference they'll face.
