Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – A tip of the hat was needed Monday afternoon as Carmen Trobaugh netted three goals for the hat trick and a Lion win as they topped GNAC rival, Emmanuel 3-1 at Rotch Field in Boston. Marissa MacDonald also stepped in to tend the posts for the Lions and collected three saves in the outing to push Emerson to 6-6-1 on the year and 4-4-1 in conference play while Emmanuel drops to 8-5-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the conference.
The first half belonged to Carmen Trobaugh and the Lions as they took on the heat with minimal subs to spare and took it to the scoreboard first as Meghan Foehl played a ball across the box in the eighth minute which Trobaugh received on a deflection that she blasted into the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-0 EC.
The Lions went hunting for another in the 26th minute of action as well with Elizabeth Corti stepping up for the assist as Corti dropped a lighting quick pass to the top right of the box to Trobaugh who posted up against a defending before finding space for a turnaround shot that landed untouched in the top left of the net.
The Lion and Trobaugh were thirsty for more than just water though as a Saints foul lined up a direct kick just outside the box in the 35th minute which Amber Bigwood perfectly placed to the far post where who else but Carmen Trobaugh awaited to one touch it into the corner and finish off her banner day.
The Saints scrapped one back from the Lions in the second half though with Amanda Roberts breaking through in the 72nd minute of action with Donandrea Myette completing a pass across the top of the box that Roberts reeled back and cracked into the top right of the net to foil the shutout campaign and pull it to the 3-1 final score.
The Lions kick back into gear this Thursday as they travel to UMASS Boston to face the Beacons in a non-conference match-up at 3:30 p.m. in South Boston.
