Frongillo earns Offensive Athlete of the Week for first time this season
English repeats as Defensive Athlete of the Week with third recognition of season overall
BOSTON, Mass. (December 15, 2025) – Emerson College swept the New England Women's and Men's Basketball Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards in women's basketball, presented by SKYBOKX 109, following its 2-0 week to wrap up its first semester schedule the Conference announce today.
Senior guard Bri Frongillo has earned NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and sixth time in her career, while junior forward Claire English has repeated as NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week, collecting the honors for the third time this season overall. Frongillo is the second Emerson women's basketball student-athlete to be named Offensive Athlete of the Week, joining sophomore Jessie Silk, who was selected on November 17, while English has received three of four Defensive Athlete of the Week honors collected by the team, joining junior Kaylin O'Meara who received the award on November 10.
Frongillo averaged a team-leading 29.0 points on 44.4-percent shooting (20-for-45), including 12-for-35 (48%) from three-point range, in the 2-0 week for Emerson. She made all six free-throw attempts and contributed 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while playing all but one minute over the Lions two games. Frongillo led Emerson to a 66-48 win at Suffolk University on Tuesday with a game and season-high 25 points and in the process became the 12th player in program history to score 1,000 points in her career at the College. She rounded out the night with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Frongillo set a scoring season-best for the second-straight game with 33 points on 11-of-25 shooting, including 7-for-13 from three-point distance, in Thursday's 68-57 win over Salem State University with four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.

English led Emerson's defensive effort that held its two opponents to 52.5 points per game on 26.4-percent shooting, including 6-for-31 (19.4%) from three-point distance, for the week, averaging 3.5 blocked shots and 11.5 rebounds per game, including 9.0 per game on the defensive end. She averaged a double-double for the week by contributing 10.5 points per game, along with 2.5 assists for the week. English tallied 11 points, nine boards, two assists, three blocked shots, and a steal in the win at Suffolk and contributed her third double-double of the season with ten points and a game-high 14 rebounds against Salem State, blocking a season-high four shots with three assists.
Frongillo, named a preseason All-American by D3Hoops.com, has started four of the five games she has played since returning from a first semester internship on the West Coast. She has averaged 22.0 points on 43.2-percent shooting from the floor, including 47.4% (18-for-38) from three-point distance, draining all 16 free-throw attempts, contributing 3.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals in 36.6 minutes per game. Frongillo has scored in double-figures in all five games played this season, and in 20 consecutive games dating back to last season overall, with 20-plus points in two games, including her sixth career 30-point outing on Thursday. She has led the Lions in scoring in four of the five games since her return and 39 times in her career overall.
Frongillo, the reigning NEWMAC Athlete of the Year and an honorable mention All-American by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), is a two-time All-NEWMAC first team selection since transferring from Division I Bryant University. She has now scored 1,036 of her 1,092 career points at Emerson, including 56 as a first year at Bryant, also totaling 196 rebounds, 223 assists and 66 steals in her 61 career games played. She is a 45.1-percent shooter during her time at Emerson, including 38.4% from beyond the arc, having converted 87.2% of her free-throw attempts.
Frongillo, a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District and two-time NEWMAC Academic All-Conference performer, has scored in double figures in 49 of the 61 games she has played in her collegiate career. She has recorded three career double-doubles – all with points and assists – netting 20-plus points 28 times in her career, including 30-plus points six times with a pair of 40-point games. She netted a career-high 44 points with a career-best 12 assists in a win over Coast Guard Academy last January.
English has started all 11 games for Emerson this season and is ranked second among NEWMAC leaders with her team-high 2.3 blocked shots per game, while ranking seventh with 8.5 rebounds and sixth with 2.7 offensive boards per game. She ranks third on the team with her 8.9 points per game on a team-best 62.2-percent shooting, while adding 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals in 22.2 minutes per contest. English has recorded three double-doubles for the Lions, scoring in double-figures in four games this season overall while pulling down double-digit rebounds in four contests.
English, named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference team last winter, has started 37 of her 55 career games played at Emerson and totaled 335 points as a 56.6-percent career shooter, 346 rebounds, 72 blocked shots, 49 assists and 39 steals. She has scored in double-figures 14 times over her career, with double-digit rebounds in 17 contests and ten double-doubles.
Emerson (8-3, 0-0 NEWMAC) is off until Saturday, January 3, when it visits No. 23-ranked Amherst College for a non-conference matchup at 3 p.m. The Lions next home game is on Saturday, January 17, when they open NEWMAC play by hosting Salve Regina University at Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gymnasium at 1 p.m.
