Five from Men's Cross Country Named NEWMAC Academic All-Conference

Lanza and Wahl earn honors for third-straight year

BOSTON, Mass. (December 12, 2025) – The Emerson College men's cross country program placed five of its student-athletes on the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference Team for their efforts in the classroom the Conference announced.

Seniors John Lanza and Niko Wahl headline the group by earning NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors for the third-straight year. Juniors Bryan Hecht and Charles Reeg each earn a spot on the Academic All-Conference team for the second time, while sophomore Christian Iannacone earns the honors for the first time.

The NEWMAC named a total of 65 men's cross country student-athletes to its Academic All-Conference team. Honorees must have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2025 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Emerson wrapped up its 2025 season by finishing ninth at the NEWMAC Championships last month, before placing 27th at the NCAA III East Region Championships. The Lions took second at the Coach Dann Runnin' Monks Classic, hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine with Lanza turning in a first-place individual finish for the first time in his career.
